About Shiner Heritage Quilters

Shiner, Texas

The mission of Shiner Heritage Quilters is to promote the appreciation of quilt making and related needle arts, to offer opportunities to educate members and the community in traditional and contemporary quilting techniques, to preserve the heritage of quilting through interaction with community members, and to provide a supportive, positive atmosphere for the sharing of knowledge and ideas.

Shiner Heritage Quilters is a 501(c)3 non- profit organization.

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 in the First United Methodist Church, Shiner, Texas. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Click here for a map.

Shiner Heritage Quilters was formed in March of 2002 by a small group of women who met monthly to learn quilting skills.  Eventually our group grew, and we began making donation quilts for areas of need in the community.  Project Linus, Shiner Nursing and Rehabilitation, Books for Babies, and the Shiner Public Library are just some of the recipients of funds or services.  Our Guild continues to grow.  We meet monthly, and we continue to make a Donation Quilt annually to benefit the community.

Shiner Heritage Quilters supports several community organizations, including area nursing homes, the Wolters Museum, and the Shiner Public Library. We make quilts for Project Linus.

LINUS Quilt Project: Sizes: 24" X 36" for Infant; 36" X 45" for Child; 40" X 60" for Teen. Quilts must be made of new materials, washable, child-friendly colors, hand-made, constructed of at least two layers of fabric. Do not use holiday fabrics, wool, upholstery fabric, corduroy, vinyl, or double knits. Quilts should not smell of cigarette smoke or chemicals.

Quilting Lessons: Every summer, we offer free quilting lessons for young people in Shiner and surrounding communities.

Quilt Show : During the third weekend of March, the Shiner Heritage Quilters have an exhibition of some type. In 2009, we had our first "real" quilt show, which will return in 2011. For 2010, we are delighted to announce that the Shiner Heritage Quilters will bring The Supper Quilt to Shiner.
